Autumn in its gloious splendor + delicious galette con higos

Today some nice pictures from our last weekend getaway and another recipe with figs. The season of figs is slowly fading away and my husband wonders already now, how I would be able to beat all the dishes I have been preparing lately with figs in the future. I have to admit, it took me several years to get him to appreciate this delicious and exotic fruit, full with iron, kalium and calcium... Figs are the fruit of my childhood and will always have a special place in my heart and my kitchen.






Galette con higos
  • 100 g flour
  • 60 g butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • pinch of sat
  • 1 egg
Preheat the oven to 180C. Add all the ingredients in a food processor and blitz till a ball of dough has been form, if the dough is to sticky, add some additional flour, if it is too dry add some cold water (spoon wise). Take the down out and roll it with your hands to a circle (ca. 20 cm). 
  • fresh figs
  • vanilla sugar
  • brown sugar
Wash the figs, tap them dry and quarter them. Spread them on the top of the shortcrust dough, leaving an edge of 2-3 cm, which you will lap over the fruits later. Sprinkle vanilla sugar and brown sugar over the top and bake for ca. 20 min. till golden brown. Serve with a dollop of unsweetened Greek yogurt.

My new favorite plate, 15 minutes pizza and pomegranates from Valencia

Don´t you just love those days, where a friend of yours surprises you with a small little something. After a long weekend, which we spend in french Pyrenees, I was not very excited to go back to work today. But thanks to this little surprise the day actually turn out great.

People knowing me, know exactly how excited I can get if someone brings me fruits or vegetables from their garden. And so I will always get something, being most grateful of being surrounded by people who love and support my passion for cooking and baking. Today I got 2 gorgeous pomegranate and my new favourite plate from a friend, who is also a food blogger and does share the same passion as I. This little something definitely made my day and my evening!!! Desert was served on a new plate, with pomegranate being a star of the dish. Still being lazy from weekend and my guys asking for pizza I decided to do my 15 minutes pizza for dinner.  The dough is done with baking powder and pizza itself in the skillet pan. It does not take you more then 15 minutes to get this dish done....if you are short on time, but still want to do something nice for your loved once, instead of putting a frozen pizza in the oven, try this recipe and I guarantee you, you will never buy a frozen pizza again....


15 minutes Pizza

  • 120  g flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • good splash of olive oil
  • water
Preheat the oven to 180 C, use grill function if your oven has that. Put all the ingredients into a blender and a couple of tablespoons of water. Blitz for couple of seconds, add additional tablespoons of water if dough did not form yet. You shall get a firm ball of dough, which does not stick to your hands. Roll out a circle fitting into your skillet pan (a pan you can put also into the oven). Put the pan on the cooker on medium-high heat and start to top your pizza:
  • 1 glass of your favourite tomato sauce
  • ham or salami
  • mozzarella cheese (buffalo) or any other cheese you like
Spread tomato sauce on the pizza dough, spread some ham or salami or both over the top and top it with cheese. Let the pan being on the cooker for additional minute or two...and then put the pan into the oven. Bake for 6-10 minutes, till cheese starts to bubble. Serve it with some fresh basil leaves on top...



The dessert was simple...some left overs from a chocolate cake with fresh pomegranate seeds. Did you know that chocolate and pomegranate are fitting so well together? The freshness and the sweetness of the pomegranate balance the bitterness of the dark chocolate vers well, you would amazed by the combination. You can either serve it aside with chocolate cake or on top of dark chocolate mouse or just have a small bar of your favourite chocolate served with a small bowl of pomegranate seeds....

Simple and humble cake..perfect addition to a cosy season...

Today quick post for an easy and humble cake recipe. Autumn is a cosy season, clothes, colours, temperatures and food of course too. This cake is a perfect addition to this season. I am using figs again....I do admit I am a bit nuts about figs and since they are now available everywhere, I am using the moment to have as much as possible of them.



Olive oil cake with figs and pecan nuts
(for 15-20 cm baking form)

  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 50 ml olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 eggs
  • 100 g ground almonds
  • 150 g flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4-5 figs
  • handful pecan nuts
Preheat the oven to 170C. Grease and line your baking form. In a bowl whisk together sugar, oil and honey, till all well combined. Add the eggs, one at the time, and whisk till first bubbles start to form....no need to use electrical mixer or kitchen aid. it does work very well with a hand whisk too. Add grounded almonds, mix briefly. Sift the baking powder and flour, add to the rest and combined till all well combined. Pour the batter into the baking form. Quarter the figs and spread them over the batter, finally sprinkle the nuts on top. Bake for 30-35 minutes (make the wooden stick test). Dust with some powdered sugar and serve. The cake can be eaten, warm or cooled and taste even better the day after.....




Make yourself a big cup of tea and enjoy a slice of this cosy and homey cake, the sweetness of the figs and honey goes so well with the hearty taste of nuts and olive oil. Crunchy on top, but soft and fruity inside...a perfect cake to be enjoyed between the meals, for breakfast, brunch or afternoon tea....

Speaking about afternoon tea...I am off for my cup of tea and one slice of this delicious cake!
